Can I take these weight loss pills when I’m on the pill?

Posted on August 29th, 2011 by admin

It’s a herbal formula called MetaSlim Weight Reduction Formula http://www.zooscape.com/cgi-bin/maitred/GreenCanyon/questp407476

I plan to use this to boost my weight loss that I’ve begun through eating a balanced diet and moderate exercise. Is it going to affect my pill?

I think the only way it would affect the pill is if it gives you the runs.
most diet pills give you diarrhea and that wouldn’t be good for the pill because then it would go straight through your body and out the other end before it has a chance to absorb into your body and do what it needs to do. so find out if that’s one of the side effects.

if you’re concerned for other reasons, ask your doctor.

Hypothyroidism, PCOS, Overweight & unable to exercise due to pain… Anyone with simular issues or answers???

Posted on August 29th, 2011 by admin

5’11 & 400+ pounds. Unable to exercise due to chronic pain steming from injurys sustained in three accidents in the past 10 years. Irregualr weight gain due to Hypothyroidism & Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) along with irregular (20+ pounds) roller coaster water weight gain during menistration.

My current exercises include walking 45 mins a day (approx a mile), arm curls with light weights in the morning & evening & the occasional (three times a week or less) side of the bed crunches. Usually 20-30 before my hernirated disc starts acting up or the Ibuprophin 800′s wear off.

My daily meals include Lean Cusine or Weight watcher frozen meals for lunch & usually the same for dinner unless I cook and then in most cases it is baked Chicken w/ some type of Vege or Pasta.

I am looking for other means of weight reduction (other than surgery) & any suggestions for low impact exercise. As well as meal suggestions for a small budget. Also sources for this info.

Thanks
Big Ga Gal

On the low-carb forum I’m a member of, many of the people claim that a low-carb diet has helped their PCOS

There is a section on the forum just for those dealing with PCOS

http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?f=46

and with thyroid disease

http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?f=76

There is also a section for those of us who need to lose more than 100 pounds.

http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?f=49

as well as a section devoted to exercise. There have been many threads devoted to LCing on a budget, you can search for them or just ask and you will get lots of suggestions. The people there are very helpful and supportive.

Hope this is helpful.

Calorie reduction and weight loss?

Posted on August 29th, 2011 by admin

Ive been reducing my calorie intake for the past week by about 500 calories a day
I used to eat 1800 but now im eating 1300.
And I walk 2.4 miles monday to friday at 3.5mph.
Ive also cut out, crisps, fried foods, sweets, chocolate, ice cream, white bread and I dont add extra salt to things or sugar. And the only thing I ever drink is water. I chew my food well and i eat at 8am, 10.30am, 12.45pm, 2.30pm, 5pm and then 7.30pm. Ive been doing this for one week.
I weigh 170 pounds and im 5 foot 9.5 inches
How much weight will I lose if keep this up for a month (I plan to stick with it for quite a while, then lessen the restrictions but still keep a balanced diet).

You’ll lose weight more quickly at the beginning of a diet. Then it will taper off the closer you get to your goal. This sounds like about a 5 pounds a month plan in the longer term. 1300 calories a day is pretty ambitious though. My guess is it won’t be long before you’re cheating and that will slow you down to a snail’s pace. You might want to try 1500 calories a day and walk a bit more. That way there’s less need to cheat and the weight is less likely to sneak back up on you once you ease up a bit later on. The key is fat loss not so much weight loss and that’s where more exercise will help a lot. Good luck!

(actually 5′ 9.5" @ 170 isn’t bad. More likely you need to tone up (resistance training) rather than lose a lot of weight).

Will I get a breast reduction on the NHS if I lose weight?

Posted on August 29th, 2011 by admin

Im 16 and 11stone, i am quite large chested but one breast is 2 cups bigger than the other. If i lose about 1/ or 2 stone and my breasts are still uneven can i get a reduction of the larger breast on the NHS?

Its really uncomfortable when i lie on it and sometimes it hurts, plus it really makes me conscious as its very noticeable.

I know its hard to lose weight on breasts already, so aside from answering my question if anyone could give me some tips on how to lose breast Weight would be so grateful i cant even tell you.

Thank you

I think it might be possible if you lose weight and that doesn’t help. Unfortunately there is no way to do targetted weight loss – you cannot focus weight loss in just one body area.

How does exercise impact dieting via calorie reduction and starvation/famine mode?

Posted on August 29th, 2011 by admin

Thanks to everyone for any advice. I was 250lbs and am now 216, so have been doing good. I have been reducing my caloric intake to 1500-2000 calories per day, and doing cardio exercise daily. Lately I have been starting to plateau alot, which I know can be natural, but want to make sure I am not sabotaging myself.

I generally read that if you put your body below 1200 calories a day it will go into famine mode and start holding onto fat etc. My question is this…. I accept that eating 1000 calories a day will cause me to stop losing weight. But what if I eat 1700 calories in a day but then burn 700 via exercise? Will my body go into famine mode? Basically, I need to know how exercise applies to famine mode, so that I can lose weight as efficiently as possible without hitting it. icon smile How does exercise impact dieting via calorie reduction and starvation/famine mode? Thanks again for the help!

Here are a couple of great articles on how to break through a weight loss plateau:

The following healthy living recommendations will help you if you’re trying to lose weight, tone up your muscles, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better:

*1) Burn more calories then you’re consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity minus the Thermic Effect of Food (TEF). A website that explains this formula in more detail and will help you determine how many calories you need to reach or maintain a certain weight is at http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/weight/calsburned.htm

Get a diet and fitness calculator that you can put on your computer or cell phone. This will allow you to easily calculate the above formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.

Set realistic goals for your ideal body weight. Here are two websites that will calculate a suggested body weight:
Adults: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm
Teens/Children: http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/exercise/weight/bmi.html

It is difficult and unhealthy to lose more than one or two pounds per week. There are 3,500 calories in a pound. If you eat 500 fewer calories per day for a week you will lose one pound. If you burn through exercise 500 more calories per day for a week you will lose one pound.

*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.

Avoid “High Glycemic Load Carbs” (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as potatoes) and drink lots of water. Read this article for more information on high GL Carbs:

Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Here is an excellent food pyramid that anyone can follow: http://www.rayandterry.com/html/images/PyramidLRG.gif?osCsid=26a424be471d1337e7c2f105d5c64d9d

*3) Exercise on most days by doing cardiovascular training and/or resistance training activities.

Read a book or find a certified trainer to make sure your doing all resistance training exercises correctly. A great book to buy that teaches you the resistance training basics is “Weight Training for Dummies”. A superb magazine to buy with resistance training routines that will not get you bored is "Muscle and Fitness". Signup for the free newsletter. An excellent free online resource is at http://www.exrx.net/

A good book to buy that teaches you the cardiovascular training basics is “Fitness for Dummies”.

*4) Get plenty of sleep. Sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health, and safety.

*5) Educate yourself continually on health issues and make a life long commitment to good health. A great free publication is “Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005”. A superb book to read is “You The Owner’s Manual”. An excellent periodic publication is the “Nutrition Action Health Letter”. Look at all areas where you can enhance your health. For example, make improvements in the quality of the air you breathe. Review outdoor air quality forecasts where you live and get an indoor air purifier. I need a great weight loss plan for a person who has limited time in a day.?

Posted on August 29th, 2011 by admin

At most i have an extra hour in the day to exercise between school and work and sleep. I am not willing to use pills or go out and buy hundreds of dollars in fancy exercise equipment. This weight loss would be more for health that for looks, i would love a plan that works quickly, but i have tried the fads and quick tricks and none of them last. I am looking to take off about 45 lbs. in order for my insurance to cover breast reduction surgery. This will tremendously help my posture and the pain in my back. I am trying to eat healthier in the day but its hard when you don’t really have time to cook. I am a vegetarian and a picky eater so this makes it harder. please help with any good ideas.

Run everyday outside for 30 minutes.

Alternatives to weight reduction surgery?

Posted on August 29th, 2011 by admin

My husband went to see a specialist in the Roux-en-Y
procedure. He has a few co-morbidites that will qualifiy him for surgery (blood pressure, BMI, inactive thyroid, etc.). Our insurance states that it MAY pay for the surgery, but only after a year of medically supervised weight loss, ($300.00 a month). We, of course, cannot afford that, including the fact that they may deny it after you are out all that money. My question is, does anyone know any safe alternatives to this? My husband broke his leg three years ago and has trouble walking any extended length and due to the pressure of his weight on his leg , it causes extreme pain. It is also hard for him to diet and loose any measurable amount of weight due to an inactive thyroid. He also has a congenital heart defect of disarythmia (spelling?). Does anyone have any ideas? Please, only serious replies, no jokes……
low-functioning thyroid with hormone replacement therapy.

Well, he can start out by changing the way he eats. Help him out, both of you make it a point to eat healthy. He will start to lose weight from a better diet. As far as exercise, he should just walk as far as he can, a few times a day. He will gradually be able to go for longer and longer. He should shoot for 30 minutes of activities a day, even if he can only do it 5 minutes at a time. Also consider getting a stationary bicycle, once again, he can do it for very short periods of times and slowly add on more time and intensity. It won’t happen over-night, but I bet within a couple of weeks he will be feeling better and will have lost a few pounds.

What is the significance of having frequent sex on body weight reduction in both males and females?

It gets your heart rate high enough to burn a decent number of calories, so if you can maintain for an hour or so, I guess you could call it a fat burning exercise.
