Need some advice on weight reduction for a 16 year old?
Posted on July 24th, 2011 by admin
Ok this is my situation.
I’m turning 16 next april. I had to quit football because of exams. I quitted like 4 months ago and i even quitted any cardio vascular exercise. Like a month ago i began doing like 30 mins a day on the threadmill cause i was getting the feeling that i was gaining a bit of weight.
I need some advice on the diet i could stick to.
I’m a student at college. I wake up at 6 in the morning have breakfast and then i have till 4 until i get home(Monday to Friday). Looking forward for summer cause i already subscribed to my uncle’s gym and i’m even going to swim at the national pool here at Malta.
I just want the diet plan during school days especially cause i’ve been searching for loads of nutrition diets and stuff but they’re all crap. If anyone can help me it would be really grateful.
Thx for reading.
Matt.
First of all, what is your BMI? (body mass index)
to calculate: BMI = weight (kg) divided by height squared in meters:
check out this site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_mass_index
it is not a very accurate way of determining if you are under or overweight, but it gives a good indication. it is not that good because if you have a lot of muscle, this calculation regards that as fat mass, not muscle mass.
whatever your BMI, try to increase fibre and fruit in your diet, for eg, cereal bars and apples. you have to have intake of carbohydrates and proteins, and a moderate amount of fat intake in order to be healthy. so if you take some bread with you at college it wouldn’t do bad. a suggestion for the bread, if you like it that way, would be to use some kunserva on the bread, and add tomatoes, olives, some garlic or onions, etc… whatever your taste is anyway! also don’t forget a water bottle to take with you. try to increase water intake, it’s good for your health.
i assume you are at a secondary school (or juniour lyceum, whatever they are calling them nowadays, with the new reforms). if it is possible, get your friends and take them for a wald around the school grounds (if there are any!). or else you could try joining a sports activity so that you’ll be sure to keep exercising – some exercise everyday helps a lot, it’s good to keep your mind fresh and keep up your morale. if you can’t do this at school, you could always take a walk (or a run – depends on where you live, and the pollution status of your village) after school. if you are taking private lessons, parhaps you can do your walk while you go to your tutor’s home, for example. if you are studying for your o-levels… yes they are important, but you must take a little break from your studies.
so that’s about the food at school (and some other things hehe). wrt food at home, you should eat breakfast before going to school – it’s true what they say on the cereal boxes, that those who eat cereal breakfast are less likely to increase their weight! add some milk or yogurt to the cereal – it’s good for your health!
when you arrive home from school, you could take a snack, like some fruit for eg. then be sure to eat what your mom/dad cooks for dinner. try to include some veggies, meat and fish once or twice a week and rice, potatoes (preferable not always fried), eggs etc for the rest.
hope this helped, and hope you’re not trying to become as thin as one of those poles used in the roads to light them up… that is not healthy!
